The Big Apple

We just got back from a fun trip to New York City with all of Nathan's siblings and their spouses. It was so much fun to see the sights and spend time with Nathan's family. Here are some of the pics of the things we did and saw. Above is Nathan and I at the Museum of Natural History by the "dum, dum" statue.
We arose at the crack of dawn to see the Good Morning America Counting Crows concert at Bryant Park. We thought for sure we were going to be too late to see anything, but I guess no one really cared to see the band because there wasn't much of a crowd. Unfortunately, the lead singer seemed to be high on some sort of substance and kept showing his bum crack to everyone during his crazy dancing.

Nathan's main objective of the trip was to see the Yankees play in Yankee Stadium before they tear it down after this season. We sat in the bleachers with the craziest, foulest bunch of New Yorkers you've ever seen. Yikes! It was rather amusing and eye-opening.

Here we are on the Brooklyn Bridge after eating some yummy pizza.

The day we went to the Statue of Liberty it was sooooo cold. The wind was just whipping and the rain kept falling. Here are some of the troops on our way out to Lady Liberty.
Rachel, Me, and Marci on top of the Empire State Building. BRRRRRR....

Rachel and Nathan by a Yellow M&M at M&Ms world.

Nathan and Rachel at Gray's Papaya - the best hot dog joint in New York.

Here we are on the Ferris wheel at Toys R Us. Wee Haaa.

We went to the Broadway Show Curtains on our final day in New York. We decided this activity should have happened on our first day there. Almost everyone slept through the first act. Can you believe it...sleeping through a Broadway Show? It was rather sad, but we were soooo tired. Of what we saw, we can definitely give it two thumbs up.

Here is where George Washington was sworn into office. Luckily Rich found some friendly Iowans to take our picture after standing by the statue for about 5 minutes.

Our group at the Statue of Liberty.

Nathan, Caleb, Rachel, Mara, and Crystal

Here we are on the subway.

Nathan and Rich saluting with the FAO Schwarz guy. Tee Hee.

The girls with the drummer boy.

The first of many bus rides to Port Authority bus station.

This trip was only possible through the help of Nathan's saintly mother. She kept our four girls for 6 LONG days. We are so happy she was willing to help us out - tantrums, obnoxious neighbors, cooking, cleaning, spoiling, and entertaining. Thanks Denice. We love you!

Visiting other places makes me appreciate Utah all the more. You saw some neat things, though. I hope to make it there someday. As for the dum dum statue...Jace is always quoting his lines from "Night at the Museum." Kinda funny. I didn't even know that was a real thing. Yeah, I'm smart.

Your trip looks so awesome. I bet you had a blast with your family getting to know them better. I had to laugh. I just looked at another one of my friends blogs and her very first picture was of her family in front of that same statue...She just moved to NYC. What are the odds???

Sounds like you had a great time! That is so funny that everyone slept through the first act.

What a fun trip! NYC is on my list of places to see before I die! I LOVE the photos of you in front of Dum Dum and on the Bridge. I'm glad you had a great time! Time without your children is so precious and rare! I laughed about the Broadway play thing. When Josh and I went to London, I went to see the play "Wicked" the first day we got there, after travelling and being awake for about 24 hours. I took some caffeine pills, but still kept dozing off during the musical. I've been SOOO ashamed to admit that, but when I read your blog, I felt SOOO validated! So, thank you for that! And thanks for sharing the highlights of your trip, it was fun to see all of the pics!
