Another Teenager and Some Fun in September

Jaren played his first season of Lacrosse. It was fun learning about a new sport.  Jaren is great at defense and really progressed as the season went on.
Activity Days Daddy/Daughter hoe down.  I was lucky enough to be on the committee so I got to see the kids do line dancing with Nathan and even got to partner with the girls since there's only one dad and two daughters :).

Jaren is quite excited to be advancing in his reading.  He loves to pull out "chapter books" at bedtime.  And is there anything more adorable and peaceful than this active boy holding still :)
Mia did her best to show Nathan and I that we are getting so crusty, old.  She added a tally mark to our home's teenage population. Rude!  We went bowling to celebrate.

For dessert she wanted a lemon, blueberry cake.
The Oyler bunch joined us for dinner and cake.

My New Year's Resolution was to ride in a 50-Mile bike race.  Anne was a great friend and agreed to do the race with me.  We were over-achievers and did 60 miles.  The night before the race we discovered my road bike tire was flat and all the stores that could help us remedy the problem were already closed for the day.  This caused me great anxiety and frustration.  Thankfully I have my trusty cross-over bike and just decided to ride that.  It definitely rode differently than my road bike, but it was survivable and an enjoyable experience.   I'm so happy I have this lady who listens to all my craziness and nonsense.  She is such a great example to me.  Anne's husband found us a couple times on the course and snapped some pictures.  Isn't that the cutest pumpkin patch we rode passed?  Also notice the giant puddles between the rows of pumpkins...it poured rain for most of our ride.  We were quite soggy but still chipper.

Glad to be done!
The evening of our race was the General Women's Conference.  I got to take all my girls since Claire is 8 now and of course we had to round out the evening with ice cream at Cold Stone.
Jaren also played flag football for the first time.  He scored nearly every game, but the hi-light had to have been when he asked a kid from the opposing team for a piggyback ride and his opponent obliged.  Jaren likes to make good friends wherever he goes.
I snapped these three photos after coming into my panty one morning...makes me smile.

We had some fun visitors for one session of General Conference too.  My sweet cousin from Arizona, her husband, and 7 kids stopped in for a quick visit.  They really are the greatest, and it was so fun to catch up.

We love this time of year when we get to listen to the wisdom of the prophet and the apostles.  Their words inspire us to continue on, trying our best to follow the Savior.  While things during the 4 sessions definitely aren't as quiet and serene as these photos indicate, I'm so grateful we can listen to the prophet on a regular basis.  Kids can learn through osmosis right?
