After too many days in the car, we vowed to not drive anywhere for the remainder of our trip. Instead, we stuck to what we really know our kids enjoy. The beach.
We watched turtles.
Pretended to surf when we went souvenir shopping.
Drove in the car a bit. Here's a small example of the chaos that seemed to ensue every time we got in this wretched van.
Read funny chicken signs.
Ate dinner at Tortilla Republic. The kids loved this dinner. We were seated on the balcony with a perfect view of the sunset and waves. They all tried guacamole and loved it.
And spent some more time souvenir shopping.
One Day 7, we decided to have a breakfast at a restaurant, the Kalaheo Coffee Cafe. It was yummy! And a nice lady offered to take a picture of our whole family because she understood those types of things are rare (since I'm usually behind the camera). Awesome! I love observant, kind people. To top things off, she complimented us on how well our children were behaved and then another lady did the same. These things are tender mercies when you feel like you aren't doing anything right at all as a parent.
Jaren and I built a sweet sand castle.
And then Mia decided we were competing for "best sand castle" and built one herself. She deemed hers "evil" and the clear winner.
Our time on Kauai wasn't actually very warm at all...evidenced by Nathan lounging completely covered by a towel.
Little water babies being buddies.
One last stop for shave ice. Uncle's Shave Ice. It was undecided who was the clear winner in Kauai's shave ice competition. My vote is for Hee Fat.
Back to the beach baby!
We went to the island again where the kids discovered many, many hermit crabs. They go ga-ga for this kind of thing. Soon they had a school of crabs they carried back to the main beach and played with (tortured) for the remainder of the evening.
Tyce is always one for the dramatic poses.
Making a hotel for their crabs.
Jaren with his crab.
This is about how much sand we carried with us back to our rental van every night. By the end of the week, that van was RIPE and oh so filthy.
We bought star fruit at a market to try out. I can't say that any of us were big fans.
